Printers are the most used peripheral with computer devices. Modern printers are compact, lightweight, and efficient for quality prints. In the printing process, print quality depends on the smooth flow of ink or toner (other than colored printers).

Maintaining the print quality of your printer

Print quality will deteriorate when 

- an ink level becomes low in the cartridge, or

- the ink begins to dry at the cartridge print head. 

The print quality can be improved by replacing an old ink cartridge with the new one when the ink level is low. Dried ink can be wiped from the cartridge print head using water or isopropyl alcohol. However, care must be taken as 

- contaminants in water can clog the print head, and

- cartridge print head, rubber gaskets, and plastic at the connections can be dissolved by isopropyl alcohol.

These are a few essential things for efficient printing using modern printers containing ink cartridges. 

Correct ink cartridge for specific printer

Inkjet printers contain multiple cartridges that work together in outputting different color prints. Buy only the right ink cartridge, the number of which is printed on the printer’s manual. Generic ink cartridges are usually not suitable for the life of your printer. For instance, your printer model is of Brother brand; it is always recommended to buy Brother printer ink cartridges of the specific number displayed on the printer model. Every printer brand also manufactures ink cartridges for its different models.

Ink or toner cartridges for black and colored printers

Ink cartridges are always different for black and colored printing. When you use an inkjet printer, you need two cartridges individually for black and colored print. The printer used for black printing uses a different black ink cartridge (not apt for a colored printer). For instance, for your Epson printer for black print, you would need Epson black ink cartridge. Printers used for black printing often use toner instead of ink. A toner cartridge can give more prints than an ink cartridge. Black printing is economical due to this reason.

Prefilled and refilled cartridge

Prefilled ink cartridges are readily available online or on peripheral computer stores. Some shops also provide the facility of refilling your old cartridge with a toner or ink, but it can sometimes damage your cartridge’s print head due to leakage.
